She Loves You! Nissley "She Loves You!" at Downtown Cabaret Theatre By Tom Nissley If you're a Beatles fan, there's a fun remembrance of all things Beatles at the Downtown Cabaret in Bridgeport, playing through April 12. It's called "She Loves You!" Directed by Andrew Empson, it stars four very realistic copies of the four guys from Liverpool in the persons of John Brosnan (George Harrison), Carmine Grippo (Ringo Starr), Alan LeBoeuf (Paul McCartney), and David Leon (John Lennon). The four appear in different formats, starting with the black suits of their first visit to the USA, and ending with wild and colorful costumes. They also change to more interesting guitars and styles as the show progresses. It was fun to watch many generations on the opening night, rocking with the beat and singing along with Yellow Submarine or All My Loving or Strawberry Fields and Hey Jude. The multi-media elements of the show take us back all the way to Ed Sullivan and wonderful old commercials for Heinz Pickles (with a crunch), the Pillsbury Dough Boy, ALL, and Anacin. They also include various Beatles concerts, and they wrap in the one we're in - a nice use of multi-media. The Downtown Cabaret Theatre is a fixture in Bridgeport, with a history going back over three decades. Families and groups of friends bring their own food and beverages and have a wonderful time watching great productions of musical shows. After a few shaky years, the mother and son producing team of Susan and Hugh Hallinan announced that they have a new contract with the City of Bridgeport to keep the place going strong. That's particularly good news for the region, and we wish them great success. "She Loves You!" is likely to be a good beginning. It will be followed next month by another musical memory called "8-Track," celebrating the Sounds of the 70's.
