It’s Truly ‘Comedy Tonight’
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM
By Bob and Karen Isaacs
BOB: At Goodspeed they’ve opened A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum which is a great musical comedy and they are doing a terrific, terrific job with Adam Heller in the role of Pseudolous which was originally played by Zero Mostel.
KAREN: This is just fun. This is a musical that you don’t have to think about.
BOB: They don’t want you to think.
KAREN: They start with the song “Comedy Tonight” and you know it’s funny. It is slapstick, there is reminiscences of burlesque, mistaken identities, courtesans.
BOB: It takes place in ancient Rome.
KAREN: Practically everyone has heard “Everyone Ought to Have a Maid” and the opening song.
BOB: Everyone will love this.
KAREN: Teenagers will love this – they will really GET the humor.
BOB: We took our college student granddaughter and she had a great time.
KAREN: It’s slapstick, it’s fun and the lyrics are funny because Stephen Sondheim wrote them.
BOB: Go see it. It’s a Goodspeed at East Haddam through Novemeber.
KAREN: You’ve got plenty of time to go see it.
BOB: You will definitely enjoy it. Director Ted Pappas did a great job.
KAREN: The men will find the courtesans are spectacular.
